There has long been debate over bare bottom tanks. I will touch on a couple of the pro's and cons here, as well as provide a couple of great links.First the PROS: 1. Easy to clean and easy to care for. 2. Easier to scrub algae off of the gl bottom and sides. 3. Any waste that can get trapped in the substrate can hurt the tank. 4. A bare-bottomed tank is a good for hospital tanks. 5. Provides a little more room within the tank to allow your fish to swim. And the CONS:1. Flat panes of gl or acrylics just aren’t found at the bottom of most environments in the wild. 2. Some animals also need substrate to live normal lives. 3. Most live aquarium plants won’t survive without a substrate to root into. 4. Waste will be very prominent and visible on the bare floor of your tank.
